Film Night 2020: Las Sandinistas

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are hosting our annual Film Night virtually this year. This year we are screening the award-winning documentary LAS SANDINISTAS! This is a great time for you to gather in small groups or on your own, and join the Casa - Pueblito virtual community.

We are hosting two screenings of the film:

  • Sunday, July 19th, 2:00pm

  • Sunday, July 19th, 7:00pm

There are 100 tickets available for each screening.

Tickets are PWYC (pay what you can), with a suggested donation of $25.00. We recognize that the COVID-19 crisis has made life hard for all of us, and we want folks to participate in the film screening. All proceeds go towards supporting Casa - Pueblito's ongoing community development work in Nicaragua.

We want the Film Night experience to be as enriching as possible, but understand that this is difficult when we can't physically be together! On top of your ticket and link to access the virtual screening, we will be sending attendees a link to a Spotify playlist with Nicaraguan music, and various recipes for a Nicaraguan-inspired meal and drinks for you to prepare ahead of, or alongside the documentary screening.

For more information on the Film Night, please email info@casapueblito.org.

LAS SANDINISTAS uncovers a watershed moment in history when a group of Nicaraguan women shattered barriers to lead rebel troops in battle and reshape their country with landmark social reforms during 1979's Sandinista Revolution and the ensuing US-backed Contra War - only to face renewed marginalization by their male peers once the wars ended. Now, 35 years later, amid the worst levels of violence against women in Nicaraguan history, these same women take to the streets to lead the popular movements for equality and democracy once again.
